A couple of points here, first, it can be good to show the adversary showing off his fitness so as to foreshadow the kind of menace he poses to the hero, see http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KingpinInHisGym

Secondly, in the Sandman universe, it is established that the occultist Roderick Burgess sees himself as a rival of the real life Aleister Crowley and the fictional Mocata, I thought I'd add my villain as another runner in the same field.

Not so sure about the mat, though. Gym mats were a much duller green back then.
