Actually, if you read the bible, the argument with God part is even weirder; JHWH actually appears as a third "man" along with the angels and is sitting in Abraham's tent with him arguing across the table. Anybody would think that this part of the story dated back to a time of myth and legend when people believed in gods who were man-sized and man-shaped or something.
